Hi! I found these lyrics:
"andhére mé chalné sé ghabrana na hi
róshni ràste chamkàeghi aghàr piàr milegha
akéle hó tó ghabrana na hi
khamóshi bat karéghi aghàr piàr milegha
thând sé ghabrana na hi
piàr tugé gharam karegha aghàr piàr milegha
aghàr piàr n' milé fir bhi ghabrana na hi
chalté chalté a khu ko khabí n khabí milegha" (the song is called
Aghàr Piàr Milegha https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtZ4ySh5Lxw)
I can't figure out which language is it. According to http://www.stazioneceleste.it/public/cinemaceleste/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=543 it's Hindi. Is it correct?

Are there any well-known Dutch songs that have to be translated into English/French/German? My definition of well-known is that the song has to be at least around the song "Open je Hart" qua how well known it is. Thx!

What are the conjugation patterns for Kurmanji Kurdish verbs in the present tense, past tense, future tense, etc?

Also, if there are any irregular verbs, which ones are these and how would I conjugate them in the same tenses?

Can you please help me identify the language to this song? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=je41KU7lt8k
The performer is called Turguem Kam. He practises throat singing alongside playing national Altai instruments. He sings in four languages - Altai, Mongolian, Russian and Tyvan https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuva. I tried putting down the words by ear and keyed them in. Google Translate identifies them as Mongolian with even some meaning behind but I'd like to be sure of that. The song title may be rendered as "Grandfather's Song". The video is based on Serguey Bodrov's movie "The Mongol" Thank you in advance!

Work - RIHANNA

The song Work by Rihanna is catchy and all, but phrases like "he said me haffi work" don't really translate.

Would it be wrong/violate the rules to translate the song from **broken** English to a more literate form? Some people can't necessarily read that and know what it means at first glance. Especially for me, a native English speaker, I even had to think about it for a while before coming up with the conclusion that she was saying "he said I have to work".

Thanks in advance.

Estonian and/or Latvian?

I might need help from someone who has knowledge of Latvian and Estonian slang. I'm asking about the song "Eesti Pois" by Reigani. It's sung by a band of Latvians living in Estonia (according to Latvian wikipedia) and the lyrics seem to be a mix of the two languages. From what I've gathered, these lyrics mean a thing in Latvian and a whole another thing in Estonian or according to others, it's a middle-language. By looking up the translation on google and on the comment section, many Latvians avoided to translate it to Estonians because they deem it a bit vulgar or offensive, but I think I can handle that just fine.

Lyrics [note that i'm not sure about the spelling of these words]

Rīga, Latvija, Reigani

Eesti poiss, eesti poiss
Kurva, kurva eesti poiss
Eesti poiss, eesti poiss
Kurva eesti poiss

Tallinna drazee
Eesti poiss sõge

Eesti poiss, eesti poiss
Kurva, kurva eesti poiss
Eesti poiss, eesti poiss
Kurva eesti poiss

Saaremaa drazee
Pärnu sõge

Eesti poiss, eesti poiss
Kurva, kurva eesti poiss
Eesti poiss, eesti poiss
Kurva eesti poiss

Help me identify this language which uses Devanagari

In this Danish song "På Toppen" by Per Vers, there is some language which I can't identify myself, but based on the Danish lyrics, I'd guess that it's Nepali or some other language used in Nepal. The lyrics are displayed on the screen, so that might make it easier. Also, if someone could transcribe and translate it, I'd appreciate it very much Laughing out loud

Add New Language - Antillean Creole

Hello, I think the language "Antillean Creole" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antillean_Creole_French) should be added to the list because although it is related to and mutually intelligible with Haitian Creole, they're not exactly the same language. It's native to the French Antilles, Dominica, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada and Trinidad & Tobago.

Scottish Gaelic: Pronouns and Present Tense To Be

$

0

Here are the pronouns in Gaelic:

mi- I
thu-you
e- he/it
i-she/it
sinn- we
sibh- you (plural/polite)
iad- they

The verb "to be" in the present tense:

...is "tha." That's it. No need for conjugation, it looks like. All you need to do is put in the personal pronoun to distinguish the conjugation of the verb.

Example:

Tha Ian òg- John is young
Tha mi sgìth- I am tired
Tha e fuar- he/it is cold
Tha iad an-seo -they are here

In this case, you would just need to put the verb in the beginning of the sentence, followed by the personal pronoun.

It's that easy.

Please share your input/questions/corrections because I'm completely new to this language too!

Why Learn Polish?

Hi,
I'm a half-Polish half-Irish teenager, and have been learning Polish since birth. Growing up, I recall loathing the language and refusing to use it even when we were visiting my Polish relatives. Nowadays, I'm more open to the language, and speak it fluently, but I can't help but wonder -

Why do foreigners (people with no Polish roots) decide to learn Polish? Why does it appeal to you, why did you decide to take up learning it?

Thank you! Smile

Languages not on the list - Middle/Old Irish

There are a lot of lyrics under the label 'Gaelic (Irish Gaelic)' that aren't modern Irish at all but Old Irish and Middle Irish. I'm not able translate these into modern Irish because of the label so I was wondering if anyone could maybe add these as separate languages on the list? There are a substantial amount of medieval folk bands that sing in these languages to warrant it I think but I've noticed it mostly with the band Corvus Corax if admin needs to check it out.
